2017 Papago Halloween 900, Oct 28

Join us for the 2017 Papago 900 Halloween Shoot!

The 900 round tournaments hosted by Papago Archery Association (PAA) are the perfect “first time” tournament for archers of all ages, especially the youth, and fun shoots for any archer that enjoys a little friendly, outdoor target competition.

Archers & spectators are encouraged to participate in the holiday spirit by dressing up in appropriate & ‘safe to shoot in’ costumes or other Halloween themed attire. Voting & winners will be announced at the end of the tournament.

**Please do not wear anything that will interfere with shooting or hinder other archers at the line. Safety will still be the priority for the shoot.**

October 28th, 2017 (Saturday)

Check in & Equipment Inspection: 7:30 am 

Official Practice (minimum 2 ends): 8:00 am
First Round will begin after official practice.

$35 for Senior & Master Divisions
$30 for all Youth Divisions (Bowman through Junior)

$50 Late registration fee for all divisions (After October 20th, 2017)
Onsite registration will NOT be accepted. 
NO REFUNDS after October 24th, 2017.

    Papago Park Archery Range

    Tables & benches are available on site. Please bring additional chairs and canopies as needed. There will be water provided for archers and a concession stand will be available for drink & snack purchases.

    *Parking is provided in the paved parking area adjacent to the range and in the additional parking lot located to the NE. All vehicles must be parked in one of the designated parking areas. No parking is allowed on unpaved surfaces.     ……”

Summer Sizzle Registration Has Closed

The DSA Summer Sizzle Registration has Closed.  All spaces are filled up. 

Here is the Schedule for the 2 day event.

Day 1 – Saturday August 12, 2017 25 Meters
Morning Shooting (600 Round) Will shoot second half Sunday Morning

Check-in and equipment inspection 7:45 AM
Official Practice 8:30 AM (30 minutes)
Scoring Begins 1st – 30 arrows after official practice
Break Approximately 10 minutes
Scoring 2nd – 30 arrows

Afternoon Shooting (600 Round) Will shoot second half Sunday Afternoon

Check-in and equipment inspection 12:30 PM
Official Practice 1:15 PM (30 minutes)
Scoring Begins 1st – 30 arrows after official practice
Break Approximately 10 minutes
Scoring 2nd – 30 arrows

Day 2 – Sunday, August 13, 2017 18 Meters

Morning Shooting (600 Round) Finishing from Saturday Morning

Arizona’s Youth Archers Head to Argentina!

Congratulations to Arizonans, Alexis Ruiz and Andrew Park, who will both be competing on Team USA at the Youth World Archery Championships on October 8th, 2017 in Rosario, Argentina! 

Ruiz and Park competed at the USA Archery Youth World Team Trials in Lansing, Michigan in July. The JOADs were awarded points for placement in qualification, score, matches won and ranking of their arrow averages. Each joins two other archers to make a category team.  Alexis will compete with the Junior Compound Women’s Team and Andrew with the Cadet Recurve Men’s Team.

This will be Alexis’ & Andrew’s first World Archery competitions.

2017 AZ State Outdoor Championships, Oct 21-22

Registration and information for the 2017 October State Outdoor Championships has been opened up.  This years event will be held at the Ben Avery Outdoor FITA range on October 21 – 22, 2017.

This year the event has changed from the typical format.  The Team Rounds have been removed, and a 90 meter Money Round has been added.

Archery Community Highlights

Arizona has an excellent pool of Coaches, Judges, and Volunteers.   Recently Papago Achery recognized one of their hard working Club members, Lester Chin.  Lester is a regular at many of the Valley archery events, always sporting a smiling face.  To learn more about Lester’s award, head over to the Papago Archery webpage for the story.

Desert Sky and Ben Avery FREE Archery Clinics

Desert Sky Archers JOAD and Ben Avery have worked together to offer some FREE archery clinics for beginner archers.  Below  is the information from their website.

“…… Hello!  It is wonderful you have an interest in Archery!  Desert Sky Archers is putting on these free archery clinics for Ben Avery Shooting Facility and Arizona Game and Fish!

The clinic is 1.5 hours long.  During that time you will be taught how to shoot a bow properly.  You will learn Range Safety, be taught drills to improve your skill.

We will supply the bows and arrows.  We ask you come in close toed shoes.  If you have long hair/bangs, please tie it back.  Shirts to be at least short sleeve, no straps or muscle shirts.

Dates for 2017 to be as follows:
April 15th Full
May 6th 8AM Full
June 10th 8AM start time
August 5th 8AM start time
September 9th 12:00PM start time
October 7 8AM start time
November 11 12:00PM start time
December 2 8AM start time

You must be present at the start time to participate in the class. When you register you will receive a notification and a couple days before the class a map to the indoor range.

You can bring your own equipment if you wish, we will inspect it for safety.  If you are bringing your own compound bow, it must be 60 pounds or less draw weight.  For range safety, minimum age is 7 years old.  Must be able to draw back a 10lb bow.

Class size is limited to 20 archers.

The 2017 Arizona State JOAD Outdoor,  April 29-30, 2017.  The event is being held at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility FITA Range, and will be Star FITA Registered.
